Adam Munshi – ’24
Reliability Management Specialist at Tampa General Hospital

What sparked your interest in global health, and how did you hear about the M.S. in Global Health program?
I’ve always been interested in public health but was particularly curious about organizations like the World Bank and IMF and how they facilitated change around the world. Georgetown’s M.Sc. in Global Health had multiple professors with impressive careers in international development and was well positioned in DC for access to opportunities with international development organizations.
How would you depict the classroom instruction?
Classroom instruction was greatly facilitated by the stories and experiences professors had that related closely to the course content. I personally loved hearing about Dr. Jarawan and Dr. Turbat’s experiences abroad working with the World Bank.
Where did you complete your field research module and what was your project?
I completed my field research module in Chiapas, Mexico. My research focused on identifying the costs of prevention versus treatment of Chagas Disease in Chiapas and Oaxaca.
What did you learn from your experience abroad?
My favorite learning experience from abroad was performing field work with the university’s professors and learning the process for designing surveys and implementing them in the field.
What has been your career path since completing the program?
Since graduating, I have joined Tampa General Hospital, a health system in Tampa, FL. I work under the Chief Medical Officer to take inventory of the system’s risk management tools, perform audits of their effectiveness, and identify opportunities for improvement.
What stood out to you most during your experience as a student?
The connections you can make in DC and through Georgetown University are amazing. I met people and professors I likely never would have met elsewhere who provided great advice and insight into a realm of work I have grown to really love.
Would you recommend the program? What was special about Washington, DC?
Yes, I would. The location, and opportunities that come with being in DC, and the unique faculty make the M.Sc. in Global Health a great experience.
