The Department of International Health recently organized a lecture by architect Sean Quinn, who serves as Sustainable Design Leader for the architecture firm HOK, focusing primarily on the Asia-Pacific region.  Speaking to a packed Alumni House, he explored several case studies in urban development, identifying challenges and opportunities associated with rapid global urbanization trends.  Quinn argued that urban growth — if planned and developed holistically — can create more efficient centers where resources are shared and more easily accessed.  To this end, he called for increased dialogue between urban planners and clinical practitioners.

The event was sponsored by Georgetown’s newly founded Urban Health Collaborative (UHC), which is operated through the Department of International Health.  The UHC aims to champion urban health research & development in cities around the world and the Washington, DC area.
