Accelerated Student Track
The M.S. in Global Health program offers a special track aimed towards current undergraduate students in either the B.S. in Global Health or the B.S. in Biology of Global Health programs. Accelerated students are able to “double-count” 2 courses AND transfer 2 courses to their M.S. degree allowing students to complete their B.S. & M.S. degrees in a total of 5 years— reducing time and cost dedicated to the program.
Students currently in the B.S. GLOH or B.S. BGH Programs will apply during their Junior Year and begin taking classes during their Senior Year of undergrad.
Accelerated students will work with the M.S. Global Health staff & the Advising Dean of their undergraduate program to create a Plan of Study. See an example plan below.
Fall I – Senior Year of Undergrad | Spring I – Senior Year of Undergrad |

There are several advantages to pursuing the M.S. in Global Health degree through the Accelerated program:
Additional Time in the Department
While all M.S. in Global Health students are closely linked to the Department and its faculty, accelerated students are particularly connected. An additional year in the program facilitates closer relationships with professors.
This connectivity is not limited to faculty and staff. Our program has a small enrollment of students, in large part to foster a collaborative and personal learning environment. Accelerated students are fully integrated into the two graduate cohorts that span their on-campus coursework at Georgetown. Consequently, accelerated students are able to forge relationships with a greater number of classmates and participate in myriad University activities and events.
Increased Exposure to Field Research Possibilities
More relevant to the degree itself, students in the B.S./M.S. accelerated program have additional time to consider field research interests. An extra year in the program allows accelerated students to attend further rounds of Field Research Module presentations from students returning from abroad.
Important Notes about the Accelerated Program
- The number of part-time students fluctuates year-to-year. Currently we have 7 students enrolled in the Accelerated Program.
- Students are able to reduce costs and time needed to complete the program through Double-Counted & Transferrable Courses.
- Double-Counted Courses: Courses that are applied to both the undergraduate B.S. degree AND the graduate M.S. degree. Students will take a maximum of two Double-Counted courses *Students will work with the M.S. GLOH staff and their undergraduate Advising Dean to determine double counted courses. (Typically these will be elective courses).*
- Transferred Courses: Courses that are only applied to the M.S. GLOH degree.
